This isn't a local story, but since co-creative Steve Martin is spreading some group of seven love across the States we thought we'd send some back his way. Bright Star is set in the American South of the 1920s and 40s and is a collaboration between Martin and Edie Brickell. The duo have also released several folk albums together.
Bright Star is the story of real life literary editor Alice Murphy, who meets an ambitious WWII veteran. Their meeting forces Murphy to confront her past. It is a story of love and redemption with a presumably folk soundtrack. The show was developed and debuted at the Old Globe in San Diego.
Even more exciting is the return to the New York stage of Hannah Elless. Ms. Elless made her Broadway debut in Steven Schwartz’s Godspell in 2013 and will step into the leading role for Bright Star at Kennedy Centre in Washington D.C. on December 2nd. The show will come to the Great White Way in March. Keep your eyes and ears on this one.
