Tonight is the night! Acting Up Stage presents Uncovered Sting and the Police. Justin and I have been counting down the days for this show at Koerner Hall. Friday, I was thrilled to speak with Mitchell Marcus, Artistic and Managing Director for Acting Up Stage about the concert.
Marcus first envisioned Acting Up Stage's legendary concerts on a trip to New York seven years ago. After seeing a musical theatre concert of music by Ben Folds he returned to Toronto, where he and Reza Jacobs conceived and developed the first Acting Up Stage concert.
Initially performed as fundraisers in support of the company's main stage productions, the concerts quickly became much more. Mitchell tells me that, "as a contemporary theatre company I am really interested in what is unique about musical theatre artists, and what is the difference between a pop singer and an acting singer. The concerts have provided a way to present songs that people think that they know, performed by a great singer, who is also a great storyteller and suddenly the lyrics and the character in the songs come to the forefront."
Over the last seven years the concerts have explored the music of the Beatles, Simon and Garfunkel, Carol King, James Taylor and Joni Mitchell. Tonight, join artists Thom Allison, Sara Farb, Mike Ross, Jackie Richardson, Jeff Madden and many more as they explore the music of Sting and the Police. The show is nearly sold out but as of this morning there are still orchestra seats and artist worker tickets available. So be sure to book your tickets now! It's going to be a great show
